I figured the Thunderbolt connection might be slower than the internal bus, but I read good things about the drive (here and on other sites), so I figured I'd give it a chance. I have been really happy with the results. Programs start much more quickly, and files that used to take a while to open now pop right up on the screen.
But the biggest difference is how long it takes the computer to restart. After cloning the internal disc to this one I restarted the iMac - first with the internal drive and then with this SSD. The old disc took four minutes and five seconds to get me to a desktop with all drives mounted (and even then I wasn't able to open folders for another 30 seconds or so). The Transcend drive got me to the same point in 24 seconds! And I could open folders immediately.
